It's crazy to think of it, but Waiting for Winry had just passed its one year anniversary!
Just over a year ago, David and I agreed to start gigging again after a long hiatus (having a kid will do that for a while... but we may have let it go on longer than it could have!). We had been having a great summer - I'd been starting to perform again after losing a lot of my confidence on stage, and I was starting to feel like I could really get out there and sing again. Dai had been doing gigs with Common Blood, the band he's in with his parents, and was also relishing the idea of more gigs, more stage time.
We ran a test gig for my father's birthday, and found the main kinks we wanted to work out in time for paid work. We worked on our set list, tweaked our gear, and we were all ready to start getting gigs booked in earnest.
Then March 2020 came along...
Less said the better!
But I really think that for us, lockdown is the best thing that could have happened. The situation became a perfect storm. We were getting cabin fever, trying to find things to keep ourselves occupied. I started collaborating with musicians on kompoz.com, and had a taste of writing my own lyrics.
Suddenly, we'd changed the whole direction of Winry, and instead of aiming for local covers gigs, we started working on our own material instead.
That was just over a month ago, and we've already got about four songs in the books that we're recording and mixing for release.
I can't wait to share them all with you!
We're aiming to release one song every month, and you'll be able to find them on iTunes, Spotify, YouTube and Apple Music, and wherever you get your music, really!
Our first single, "Wayside", comes out in October 2020. Watch this space to be the first to know! :D
